The story of Cupid and Psyche
Until 10 June, the Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo hosts the exhibition The story of Cupid and Psyche - The myth in art from antiquity to Canova, aims to trace the story of the love the most ancient of all time. A myth in literature as in art, has been particularly shown, captivating generations.
The surrounding of the Roman monument built as a tomb for Emperor Hadrian, the works on display - paintings, pottery, carvings, sculptures - they tell the viewer the story of the young Psyche, which for its beauty unleashes the terrible jealousy of Venus, which - unconsciously - causes the love affair between Psyche and Cupid. After passing the tests required by the awful goddess, Psyche comes to Olympus, where he wed with love. Narrated by Apuleius in the ass of gold, The tale of Cupid and Psyche has inspired an exhibition curated by the Director of the Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo, Maria Grazia Bernardini and (for the archaeological), Marina Mattei, curator of the museum archaeologist Capitoline.
