Ostia, also known as Lido di Ostia (or Lido di Roma) is a village in the Municipality of Rome. The birth of the neighborhood is related to fascism that turned the beach of Rome, connected by rail, then joined in 1927 by one of the first Italian highways, theVia del Mare, while the first plans were drawn up from the airport of Rome-Fiumicino .In 1933 he officially took the name of "Lido di Roma."
Following the new city plan of Rome, was created from scratch a new neighborhoodon the south side of town (EUR) and a road was designed (dedicated to ChristopherColumbus), at the time called the "Imperial Way", to connect Rome with the sea. The project was approved in 1938, but the road was opened to traffic only after the war, in 1949.
