Andy Warhol and the media
From June 12 to September 9, 2012
Warhol is represented at the National Gallery of Modern Art from one of his "still-life policies" Hammer and Sickle (1972), a series of works dedicated to the hammer and sickle, whose inspiration is Italy.
The exhibition "Warhol: Headlines" consists of a large group of works gathered together for the first time, where news is the high artistic level. Warhol reminds us that a fact, although shocking, does not become news until it is translated in a title, until he is given a graphical form. In this exhibition, for the first time, the relationship between Warhol and the media is not analyzed by the images (portraits of celebrities or advertisements), but through linguistic symbols. Less known of Marilyn or Heinz Ketchup, this stage of its production has more links with other wonderful artists such as conceptual and visual poetry, or the implementation of important cooperations with other artists (Keith Haring).
In cooperation with the National Gallery of Art of Washington, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, edited by Molly Donovan John J. Curley, Anthony E. Grudin, John G. Hanhardt, Calie Angell and Matt Wrbican.
